Editorial Policy

What this site is

US Waste Index is a directory built primarily from public regulatory data (EPA ECHO Exporter and RCRAInfo), plus business-listing data (Google Business Profile) for the commercial-hauler side. It is compiled and maintained by the US Waste Index team; it is not a newsroom, and most of what's on the site today is compiled data rather than original written analysis.

Source preference

Compliance, permit, and violation data is sourced only from primary EPA systems — never inferred, estimated, or filled in when a source record doesn't have a value. Where a fact can't be sourced, the page says so rather than guessing. See Methodology for exactly which sources feed which fields.

What we do not do

• We do not accept payment to change a compliance figure, a violation record, or any canonical data field — see Methodology's read-only-layer guarantee.
• We do not present a facility as a "vetted" or "verified" service provider without a stated basis for that claim (a real permit, a real business classification) and the date it was checked.
• We do not currently publish original reporting, investigations, or opinion content — the guides and glossary in Resources are reference material, not editorial commentary.
